Claire R
Hello! I’m Claire Ross and I’m the e-learning development officer at Geevor! It’s my job to come up with new and exciting ways for everyone to learn about Geevor using electronic resources, like the internet.
I am a Geordie girl, born and raised in the North East which has a strong history of coal and metal mining, so Geevor is sort of a home from home! I’ve been at Geevor for nearly a year now, I’m getting used to the place, but I do keep banging my head on things.
Traditionally I’m an archaeologist, mainly concentrating on museum interpretation and learning. I love museums and what people think of them, so this job is perfect for me. Basically, I am paid to play with computers and come up with new and exciting ways for Geevor and for the public to interact and learn together. This blog is a good example! By the way I am no IT expert, but I have had a lot of help from some very clever IT specialists at the University of Exeter. I’ve had to learn very quickly how to do some exciting things with websites.
The main part of my job is to create a new e-learning resource for Geevor. It’s going to be great! It is for anyone who is interested in learning a bit more about Geevor and the history of hard rock mining. But it’s not going to be boring old text, it will have interactives, games, videos… all sorts! But if there’s anything you would like to see on the e-learning or on the blog, please let me know! I’m open to suggestions!

Hi! i thought i’d give an update on what i’ve been up to. I should probably explain a bit more about my job. its a bit complicated. I am technically a ktp associate. what’s a KTP associate? well it stands for knowlegde transfer partnership, basically i manage a project, which should help to make Geevor even better with the help of a university, this project is with the univeristy of exeter, for more details you can visit ktponline. So that is the background basics, the main part of the project is the e-learning website. But theres so many other bits and pieces involved!
At the moment i am in the middle of writing a paper on the project which i then have to present to a room full of strangers in Plymouth on December 3rd. I’m a little bit nervous about it to be honest. I also am constantly updating the blog, flickr and facebook site. As well as trying to complete a diploma in management and a PhD! oh and everything else that is involved in the e-learning website (content, design, images, oral histories, interactives, meetings…) not an easy life. But i’m really enjoying it. I’m really getting into the idea of web 2.0 technologies and how i can use them at Geevor. I shall leave the explaination of what web 2.0 is for another entry…
