From egg hunts to miners’  talks and bonnet making to hand drilling, there are plenty of exciting activities planned over Easter at Geevor Tin Mine in Pendeen.

The fun kicks off on the first Monday of the school holidays with a chance to have a go at the old mining skills of hand-drilling, hand-barrowing and crushing rock with a bucking iron. Supervised by Geevor staff, free with site admission and suitable for all ages (except those using bucking iron must be over eight years), the sessions run from 2.30pm to 3.30pm on April 6th to 9th inclusive and from April 14th to 17th inclusive.

For younger children there will be storytelling sessions recounting the tales of Geevor cats, Basil and Scraggs, which include the popular ‘Hammer and Crack!’ song and a chance to make your own cat mask. The sessions take place at 11.30am on April 6th, 14th and 16th.

Headgear is a craft activity that gives everyone a chance to get into the holiday spirit by making an Easter bonnet Geevor style! Available on April 9th and 10th, running from 9.30am to 12pm, sessions cost £5 per person and include all necessary materials. Due to popularity, advanced booking is required.

No Easter is complete without an egg hunt and Geevor’s take place on April 10th, 12th and 13th involving a fun trail around the site to win an Easter Egg. Open to all under 12s, the activity is free with admission and available throughout the day.

Weather permitting there will be guided nature walks exploring the flora and fauna around the Geevor site and surrounding countryside on April 7th and 13th. The two-hour walks begin at 11am from Geevor Reception and cost £5 per person – binoculars are recommended.

There will also be guided talks around the mine’s new interactive Hard Rock Museum on April 8th, 15th and 17th. Starting at 11.30am they last twenty minutes, they are included in site admission and uncover some fascinating facts about mining history.
